Two years ago, I took a nasty fall on a bushwalk and badly sprained my ankle.
I did what most people do: iced it, braced it, elevated it for a few hours.
Then I got on with my life.
No physio.
No scan.
No rehab.
Just a casual, optimistic “She’ll be right.”
(Spoiler: she was not right.)
For two years, I couldn’t sit comfortably cross-legged with my kids.
I couldn’t move freely.
Exercise felt uncomfortable, and I used that discomfort as an excuse not to do it.
And if I’m honest, that excuse got in the way of a lot of things – my health, my strength, even my confidence.
A couple of years later, I had a ski trip of a lifetime coming up.
My ankle felt… well, how it always felt by that point: dodgy.
So four days before I flew out, I saw a chiropractor. I told him I just needed enough of a quick fix to get me through the trip.
It worked. I skied. It was amazing.
But of course, the ankle was still dodgy
I got regular treatment.
I started the rehab.
I did the strength work (okay, not always religiously…but I did it).
I had the remedial massages that made me swear out loud.
And it’s helped.
Because I’m finally addressing the actual problem.
We know when something isn’t right.
We feel it.
But we avoid dealing with it because it’s inconvenient, or boring, or expensive, or it doesn’t feel urgent enough yet.
And that’s how little problems become big ones.
That’s how something totally fixable becomes a foundational issue that’s expensive, time-consuming, and painful to correct.
And yes, I’m still talking about my ankle.
But I’m also talking about your business.
If your pricing is off…
If your bookings are patchy…
If you’ve been “meaning to” fix your systems or sort your marketing…
You already know what’s not working.
But if you keep ignoring it, you’ll get to a point where it hurts to keep going.
Where the work to rebuild becomes so much bigger than if you’d just tackled it early.
And you can’t build a sustainable business on scar tissue and hope.
“She’ll be right” might get you through a few shoots.
But it won’t carry you through the kind of business you’re really trying to build.
Whether it’s your ankle, your pricing, your workflows, or your confidence—you’re allowed to do the unglamorous work that gets you unstuck.
Because “doing okay” isn’t the same as thriving.
And Band-Aids only work for so long.
